Christin A. Handa

Christin concentrates her practice on estate planning and estate and trust administration. She is a partner in HMB's Trusts & Estates group.

Prior to joining HMB, Christin practiced family law and represented clients in divorce and custody proceedings. Christin's experience in family law complements her practice in estate planning, particularly with the negotiation and drafting of premarital and postnuptial agreements. Christin prides herself on being accessible to her clients and providing practical advice to accomplish their goals.

Below is a sampling of recent matters in which Christin has assisted clients:

  • Preparation and negotiation of premarital agreements to protect the family wealth of the second-generation family business owners
  • Drafting of estate plans to comply with terms of divorce decrees and eliminate or minimize involvement of former spouse
  • Consulting with individuals in pending divorces regarding implications of family trusts on property division and support obligations

Christin earned her B.A. from the Ohio State University, where she was a fellow of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law with a Certificate in Child and Family Law.

Christin is passionate about providing legal services to disadvantaged individuals and families. She is a volunteer attorney with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, a non-profit organization that provides pro bono services to Chicago's poor and working poor. Christin is also an associate board member for Sarah's Inn, an Oak Park non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence. When she's not in the office, Christin enjoys travelling, reading novels and watching football.
