Job Title:State and Local Tax Partner
Status:Full-time, Exempt
Hours:1800 (minimum) client billable hours requirement;
ability to service client needs when necessary
Reports to:State and Local Tax Partners

Job Summary/Scope:

The attorney will be an integral part of a multi-state income, sales and use, transaction and franchise tax practice that addresses constitutional, statutory and regulatory issues across the country. You will be involved in all aspects of state and local taxation practice that includes audit defense, litigation and planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage state income/franchise/payroll/sales & use tax audits/protests/appeals
  • Counsel clients on the consequences of new and updated state tax laws
  • Assist with corporate formations, transactions and related work
  • Work directly with state auditors to resolve client audit issues
  • Maintain and expand on knowledge of tax compliance, tax reporting, tax research and tax planning on a multi-state level
  • Responsible for monitoring and applying state and local tax-related legislation
  • Manage multi-state reviews that analyze franchise, income, exemptions, credits and incentives and corporate structures that reduce client’s tax burden
  • Ability to receive and accomplish other responsibilities, as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor degree and Law License required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or taxation is desirable, but not mandatory
  • 8+ years tax experience or 6+ years with an LLM in Tax required

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work closely with a variety of people including clients, officials from government tax agencies, accountants and other tax professionals
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Detail-focused and highly organized work habits
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Professional demeanor and advanced interpersonal skills
  • Exercises excellent judgment in handling confidential information and sensitive matters
