Job Title:Associate Attorney - Litigation Group
Status:Full-time, Exempt
Hours:1800 (minimum) client billable hours requirement;
ability to service client needs when necessary
Reports to:Litigation Group Partners

Job Summary/Scope:

As a member of HMB’s Litigation Group, the Associate Attorney will focus on complex litigation matters, representing private businesses, financial institutions, credit committees, D&O insurance carriers, real estate developers, and landlords. This is an excellent opportunity to work directly with clients by leading on complex matters while continuing to develop an existing skill set. The candidate must have strong academic and work credentials, excellent business acumen and developed organizational and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and in groups and emphasize superior client service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to independently draft briefs, written discovery
  • Experience with motion practice, presenting witnesses for depositions
  • Successfully argue motions
  • Assist with trials from inception to completion
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and articulate legal strategies and courses of action
  • Experience in arbitration and mediation
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Identifying and staying on top of client needs

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Juris Doctor degree; licensed to practice law in IL with strong academic credentials
  • 5-8 years of law firm experience preferred, with an emphasis on commercial and/or general business litigation; trial experience is preferred
  • Strong drafting skills; written work product is effective and concise; client counseling demonstrates thoughtful, clear sequencing of ideas and presents concepts and facts persuasively
  • Excellent organizational skills; detail-orientated and proficient in working with others on all aspects of a deal
