Joel M. Friedman

JOEL M. FRIEDMAN focuses his practice in taxation, estate planning and business law. His practice often involves planning for clients in one or more of these areas, using his skills in each of these areas and also his knowledge of the individuals, families and entities that are involved. Due to his extensive background in these areas, Joel often assists other lawyers in matters related to his areas of proficiency.
While attending law school, Joel worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent. He joined a small law firm after that and practiced with several partners before operating his own firm until May 2000, when he joined Horwood Marcus & Berk.

Joel does extensive work in the not-for-profit area. He is President of the Alvin H. Baum Family Fund, a significant donor to many charities. Among his awards and activities are the John Marshall Law School Spirit Award and the Cove School's Prism Award. Joel is also the founder of the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana campus), which has become the Institute For Sustainability, Energy and Environment (iSEE). Joel maintains an active role in iSEE's activities.
