HMB is pleased to announce that David Hughes has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC). David was selected for his extraordinary accomplishments and demonstration of a high standard of excellence and ethical performance in tax law.
Formed in 1981, the ACTC provides a venue where outstanding tax lawyers work together to promote sound tax policy. Membership is an honor reserved for those at the top of their profession and is limited to 700 tax attorneys across the United States working in private law firms and in-house legal departments, teaching tax in law schools or working in federal or state revenue agencies. Fellows must be nominated by their peers and then must undergo a rigorous screening process before being elected.
David advises a wide range of clients on how to structure their business and activities to reduce their state and local tax liabilities and he also defends clients in audits, administrative proceedings and court against state and local tax assessments. David is very active in the SALT community. He is an adjunct professor at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law where he teaches an LLM class on state and local tax. David is also a Vice Chair of the ABA’s State and Local Tax Committee, a Director for the Chicago Tax Club and the Chair of the Club’s Indirect and Operational Tax Committee.
